William L. Houchins, of Northampton Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania passed away at home on April 15, 2024, age 77. A 1964 graduate of Petersburg High School, Bill graduated from the University of Evansville with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. After college he was first employed with Public Service Indiana (now Duke Energy) and eventually worked in nuclear power electricity generation throughout the world. He career included numerous management consulting positions with such companies as INDUS International, SAIC, Booz Allen Hamilton, and at retirement with Sheffield Scientific. Through consulting work Bill, and his wife Connie resided near London, England and in Paris, France and often traveled for work to locations as varied as Finland, Hungary and Romania.
Bill spent many happy times with his family and friends boating on the Delaware River and the Chesapeake Bay. Bill also enjoyed walking along a river or sitting on a bench watching the river traffic in the US and Canada as well as during work and pleasure travels throughout Europe. He possessed an engineer’s mind and ability to create out of leftover screws, a length of pipe or a piece of wood just the right object or tool for a task.
Bill was born in Pike County, Indiana to Johnson D. and Sylvia Robinson Houchins on June 24, 1946, the youngest of three sons. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John and Larry. He was the beloved husband of Connie Griffith Houchins for fifty six years. In addition to Connie, Bill is missed by children: Lt. Colonel (Ret. USAF) Todd (Stacie), of Bay Haven, Florida; Chief Master Sgt. (Ret. USAF) Craig (Rusheene), of Yorktown, Virginia; Courtney Turner (Regan) of Vero Beach, Florida; and Ashley Hooker (Nick DeStefano) of Richboro, Pennsylvania; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Also surviving are sister-in-law Betty Houchins, nieces and nephews and their families. Bill demonstrated a quick wit, and Connie will miss, among many things, his ability to make her laugh.
A Celebration of Life will be held in summer. Bill’s family is grateful to Penn Medicine’s Hospice staff for their kindness and ask that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
