Elizabeth Skilton of Doylestown, PA formerly of Burholme, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Lakeview Nursing Home, Doylestown. She was 93.

She was the beloved wife of the late Walter C. Skilton.

Born in Philadelphia she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lizzie King Wheeler.

Elizabeth was very involved and active all of her life. While at the United Methodist Church of the Redeemer, she was in the Senior Choir, lead the Young Women's Choir, was on the Church Board, and held leadership rolls in the Women' Auxiliary. She served as President of the PTA of Crossen Elementary School, was involved in the Eastern Star, volunteered as a Gray Lady at Jeanes Hospital, and later at Holy Redeemer Hospital.

During the Second World War, while her husband was serving in the US Army she ran the Frank Wheeler Machinery Company. She was a trained soprano, who sang at many weddings and recitals. She also played piano for musical groups, as well as accompanying her husband.

She traveled extensively, both with her husband, and after his death, with many friends. Her culinary skills were legend, and she always had pie crust in the freezer, on the chance that someone would bring her fruit. Well into her eighties, she was an avid bridge player. She was a master knitter, who made caps for newborns, Christmas stockings, and special sweaters for all the family.

She loved being with her family. She took her grandchildren on lovely trips, and spent hours doing puzzles and playing games with them. Even as her health failed, she loved to read to the great grandchildren, when they visited their beloved “GiGi”.

She is survived by her son W. Frank Skilton and his wife Leslie of Doylestown, her grandchildren Jennifer Wasserman and her husband Daniel, Heather Giampapa and W. Matthew Skilton. She is also survived by her dear great-grandchildren Lily, Henry and Santo. She was predeceased by her grandson in law Santo Giampapa.

Dear Frank and Leslie and Family,
We were so sorry or hear of Aunt Elizabeth's passing, We have so many wonderful memories of Aunt Elizabeth. As little girls, she always made Jackie and I feel so welcome and loved. One of our special memories was visiting her family's home in Ocean City, New Jersey. The last time we saw her, she was so sharp and fun to be with. She and our Dad had such a great frienship. All the trips they took together and fun they had.
She will be sorely missed.
All our love, Bruce, Helene, Jackie and Jack

I only knew her for a short time as her companion but will always remember our talks and playing Yatzee. I still cannot get over the how small the world is. She grew up with my old neighbor who was like a second mother to me, Marie McCluskey. Rest in peace.
