Allen L. Kanter

KANTER,

Allen L., 89 the founder, Owner and Chairman of the Board of Mid-Atlantic Packaging, Inc. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Beloved husband of Valentina (nee Tschepikiewski) for 41 years. Devoted father of Daniel Kanter (Joan Kahn), Julie Burke (John), Stefanie Kanter, and the late Christopher Kanter.  Also survived by his grandchildren, Justin, Lindsay, Jennifer, Rachael, and Carley. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Max and Sarah (nee Balaban) Kanter. 

Allen was a pioneer and innovator in the packaging industry. He holds 29 patents for innovative box designs, paving the way for new ideas for packaging and marketing. He was the heart and soul of the company, investing in state of the art technology to keep his company on the leading edge of packaging.

Mid-Atlantic Packaging is a founding member of the Association of Independent Corrugated Converters (AICC).  Allen’s vision of being on the ground floor is one of the many demonstrations of his forward thinking to innovate and lead.  His business partnerships with many leading edge companies helped to grow Mid –Atlantic Packaging as a successful company for 56 years, and his investment and vision for the future will allow his legacy in the corrugated box industry to continue on. 

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater. His generosity was evident in the help he provided to orphanages in Japan.  This generosity continued through his life.  He was an avid supporter of the Devon Horse Show and Dressage at Devon.  He has also supported many causes including scholarship funding at Gwynedd Mercy Academy, North Penn Valley Boys and Girls Club, The Variety Club, City Team of Chester, and area hospitals.

Allen lived a full life.  He was an outstanding athlete throughout his entire life, participating in the Penn Relays as a young man, and also was an avid sports fisherman, competitive tennis player and runner. 

Allen’s family will receive condolences on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.), New Britain, PA 18901 and on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 W. Main St., Lansdale, PA 19446 from 9:30-10:30 AM, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM.  His interment will be private in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Allen’s memory to The Variety Club of Philadelphia www.varietyphila.org or mail to P.O. Box 609, Worcester, PA 19490 which benefits children with developmental disabilities or to City Team – 634 Sproul St., Chester, PA 19013 which assists those in extreme poverty and those struggling with addiction.
