Samuel P. Evans Jr.

Samuel P Evans, Jr. of Warwick, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. He was 75 years old, and the loving husband of Barbara Patricelli Evans.

Born in Philadelphia and raised in Ardsley PA, Sam was the son of the late Samuel P Evans Sr. and Claire Joyce Brixius Evans, and brother of the late Stephen Evans.

Sam attended Queen of Peace Elementary School and Bishop McDevitt High School. He graduated from Penn State University in 1971 with a BS in Secondary Education and went on to earn his Masters from Trenton State College.

Sam began his career teaching Social Studies at Delhaas High School and continued at Council Rock North and South High School for 37 years.  In addition to his teaching career, Sam truly enjoyed his years coaching high school football.

At Penn State, Sam also graduated from the ROTC program and earned a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. During his 29 years of service, Sam rose to the rank of Lt Colonel serving in Germany, Iceland, Jamaica, Dominica and Haiti with the 330th Engineers and the 358th Civil Affairs. A notable employment was his role as a Civil Affairs Officer advising and providing assistance for the Haitian Ministry of Education.  Sam was a member of the Newtown American Legion, the US Army Reserve Officers Association and the Civil Affairs Association.  He was an avid reader, enjoyed golf outings with “The Hackers”, family beach days and travel. Together Sam and Barbara traveled to nine countries and nine islands. But Sam mostly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family, friends, following Penn State football and Philly sports.

In addition to his wife Barbara, Samuel will be dearly missed by his sons and daughters-in-law, Drew and Donna Evans, and Brett and Lisa Evans; his grandchildren, Nolan, Nathan, Ethan, Samantha and Brady. Samuel is also survived by his brother Joseph Evans and sister Sharon Pahutski (Ken) and many loving nieces and nephews, dear friends and loved ones.

Relatives and friends may greet Samuel’s family on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 10:00am, until the start of Words of Remembrance at 11:45am at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Catholic Church at 1410 Almshouse Road in Jamison, PA 18929. His Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00pm. His interment, with military honors, will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chandler Hall Hospice Services at 99 Barclay Street in Newtown, PA 18940, or to Sisters of St. Clare at 1271 Langhorne Newtown Road in Langhorne, PA 19047.
