Viewing and services .. All of these options are available to you to memorialize and remember your loved ones. All are acceptable, all are possible. The most important thing is that you are comfortable with your choices. At Fluehr's funeral homes, you are encouraged to design a funeral based on your personal beliefs, values and wishes. We can help you. But, what choices are available to you?
As with any funerals, the family will need to make many decisions. When we meet with the families to make funeral arrangements, we will discuss each step with you, walking you through the next few days and aiding you in deciding what you want.
Cremation Options
For those preferring cremation, we are well prepared to help you. Many people and families
prefer cremation to burial. The reasons vary from environmental concerns to natural
preferences. Whatever the reason, your decisions should reflect your familys
traditions, beliefs, and desires.
What are my options when cremation is chosen?
They are the same as for a "traditional funeral." Basically, you are able to do whatever
you choose. Perhaps the biggest misconception is that when a family chooses cremation, they
are then unable to have a traditional funeral. This is untrue. Many families choose to have a
viewing and funeral service for the deceased. They may even choose a burial service for
the cremains.
Final Disposition
For the cremation and/or the memorial service, family members do have a few options when
deciding what to do with the cremains. They include:
Permanent Possession.
This is where family members choose to keep the deceased nearby. Since funeral urns are often pieces of art, this allows the family to keep the cremains in a beautiful container to be permanently retained.
Scattering
It is commonplace today for an individual to want his cremains scattered across a place such as a field, a stream or possibly even a golf course. When planning to scatter the ashes, work with your funeral director and clergyman, as the scattering of ashes is regulate by law and religious practices.
Burial
Families may choose to bury the cremains in either a grave or a mausoleum. This way, family members can be laid to rest near a loved one who has not chosen cremation and also provides family members with a permanent place for them to visit. This option also allows for memorialization and markers near the burial site. Most sites can be marked with a plaque or other marker.
