Condolences for Zachary Hesch Severns

Krystal TTuesday, April 30th

Zak was an amazing person and his smile and energy has left a lasting impression on me. Although I only knew him a short time he has forever changed the mother/baby family. When I think of him I see his smile. He had the absolute best humor. We were all so blessed to have known him. Sending you all thoughts as you traverse this time. I'm so so sorry for your loss.

I worked with Zak at HUP. He was not only one of the most hardworking individuals, but the kindest, funniest, most sincere human I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. He made every single person feel loved and special. Every time I came to work and I saw Zak I knew I was going to have a good night. He greeted every single patient with a “hi mama bear” and a smile and it was something patients and staff alike loved. Aside from his love of the Steelers, espresso, plants and cats, the one thing I know Zak loved more than anything was his parents. He made it so clear in every interaction the love and respect he had for his mom and dad. My heart goes out to you both. Zaks impact on my life is something I’ll never forget. He was a true friend and I will miss him every day.

Although I worked with Zak for a short time, he made a lasting impression on me. When I walked into work and saw he was working, I knew it was going to be a good night. He was a very kind soul and cared deeply about patients and coworkers. Always willing to help and share a laugh. I’ll miss coming by S8 to say hi.

Shannon TTuesday, April 30th

Although I only had the pleasure of working with Zak for less than a year, the time we spent laughing about sports rivalries, discussing the power of music, plants, and good coffee will forever leave an imprint on my heart. I'll never forget his kind smile, his attention to detail, and pride in every single thing he did for silver 8; his loss is a blow to our team in a way I cannot fully describe. Every time a patient was discharged with their baby, Zak would always say "May you enjoy your new life together" to the parents as they left, and I saw how much it meant every time he said it. I send my love and condolences to his whole family, especially his parents who he spoke of with nothing but admiration and love. Thank you for everything, Zak.

Oh my sweet Zak. My heart is broken knowing I won’t get to laugh with you or give you any more big hugs. Sending heartfelt condolences to his parents, his love and respect for you both (as said below) was absolutely reflected in his words, actions, and principles. It's not very often that someone is special enough to make such a huge impact in such a short time, but Zak managed to do that on Silver 8. He was engaging, thoughtful, funny, kind, and genuine in addition to being an incredibly efficient and hardworking member of our team. His positive attitude, bright demeanor, inspirational quotes, and easy laughter brought a warm and vibrant energy to our unit that will be greatly missed. He remembered people's names, looked you in the eye when speaking to you, and made you feel like what you had to say was important. He put people at ease immediately and was loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of meeting him. I am heartbroken about his passing and send my love to his family, friends, and coworkers.
