John (Johann) Gallik

John (Johann) Gallik of Lower Makefield Township, died peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, May 31, 2020.  At the age of 91, John left his earthly body to be with our Heavenly Father.  He will be deeply missed by his loved ones.

John was the loving husband of Eva (Bahnweg) Gallik.  The couple shared 65 years of love, memories and laughter.  Born in Yugoslavia, he was the son of the late Johann and Barbara Gallik.  He immigrated to the US in 1952 and married his beloved Eva in 1955.  They raised two daughters, Anna and Kathy, in a loving home in Northeast Philadelphia.  Through the years, his family expanded and he was affectionately known as Opa or Opi.

His family fondly remembers his angelic smile and beautiful singing voice.  He would often sing a variety of songs in German or English, while playing the piano, harmonica or accordion.  John also enjoyed gardening, boating, and animals.  He was a fierce card player when playing Pinochle with friends and family.  He worked for over 30 years as a tool and die maker at Eaton Yale & Towne.  He was known to be able to fix practically anything, and was always lending a helpful hand.  John and Eva took memorable 6 week long adventures traveling across the United States and through Europe.

John was predeceased by his daughter, Anna Decher, and brothers, Jakob and Adam (Helen) Gallik.

John is survived by his beloved wife Eva.  He will be greatly missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Mark Falcone; son-in-law, Manfred Decher; grandchildren, Michael (Kim) Decher, Diana Decher, Teresa (Jason) Harris, Erika (Adam) Priori, Maria (Eric) Wimmers, John (Christine) Falcone, Christina (Matt) Kauffman; 18 great-grandchildren, Rebeka, Melissa, Ellie, Timmy, Coulton, Matthew, Luca, Luciana, Stella, Julia, Gabriel, Morgan, Anthony, Colette, Olivia, Scarlett, Austin, and Daniel; sister Margaret (Dieter) Forberger; sister-in-law Hilde Gallik; and many nieces and nephews.

Following current health and social-distancing guidelines, masks are required at the services.  Relatives and friends are invited to greet John’s family on Monday, June 8, 2020 from 10:00 am, until the start of his Funeral Mass, 11:00 am at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Road in Newtown, PA.   Internment following mass is at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3301 W Cheltenham Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19150.  A memorial gathering and luncheon will be arranged for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shriner Hospital for Children, in John’s memory, to 3551 N. Broad St. in Philadelphia, PA 19140.
