Robert A. Smevog

Robert A. Smevog of Richboro and formerly a long time resident of Southampton died peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at St. Mary Medical Center.  He was 92. 

Robert was the husband of the late Evelyn B. Stivers Smevog.  Together they shared 64 years of marriage until her death in 2015. 

Born in LaCrosse, WI on December 16, 1927, Robert was the son of the late Harold M. and Leona Houska Smevog.

Bob was a pilot and his greatest love was flying.  He served in the US Navy in WWII and the Korean War.  He was a graduate of the Aeronautical University of Chicago and worked as an aeronautical engineer for Beech Aircraft, Bell Aircraft, General Electric Corporation and Sikorsky Helicopter.  In 1985 he was awarded the Pioneers in Space medal for his contribution to the US Space Program.

He is survived by his two children Jeanine Evans and her husband Lee of Fallsington, and Dr. Eric Smevog of Holland; three grandchildren Daniel Evans of Lancaster, Kathryn Esposito and her husband James M. of Newtown, and Douglas Evans and his wife Dr. Emma Moran Evans of West Lafayette, Indiana; and three great-grandchildren James and Bennett Esposito of Newtown and Caroline Evans of West Lafayette.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his graveside service at on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 9:00 AM at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd., Newtown, PA 18940.  Guests are kindly asked to arrive at the cemetery by 8:45 AM and please remember to wear a mask and recognize social distancing guidelines. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert’s memory to Advent Lutheran Church, 45 Worthington Mill Road, Richboro, PA  18954.
