Kathleen A. Heck (Mahoney)

Kathleen A. Heck, of North Wales, PA died on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at home with her husband, Eric, and her best friend, Maria Hall, by her side.  She was 58.  She closed her eyes, drew her final breath and peacefully departed this life, trading in her well-worn sails for well-earned angel wings.

She was the beloved wife of 35 years to Eric Heck.

Born in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Marie L. Mercadante Mahoney

Kathy was the proud owner and operator of The Talking Teacup for over 15 years in Chalfont, Pa.  She very much enjoyed building a special place for friends and family to relax and make special memories.  Prior to opening the tea room, Kathy worked for Byer’s Choice managing the opening of their Retail Shop; Giggle’s Gifts, managing the opening of their second location in Trappe, PA; The Deb Shops as a Swimwear and Lingerie Buyer and John Wannamaker’s as a Visual Merchandiser.   Kathy also opened and operated, The Wreathery, a Dry Flower and Design Business, for several years.

Kathy was also an avid sailor, sailing their Island Packet sailboat, Tainui, on the Chesapeake Bay and, after finishing front line and maintenance chemo treatments, living aboard their boat for 6 months as they traveled to The Bahamas, before medical recurrence made them adjust sails for home.

During Kathy’s nearly 7-year fight with Ovarian Cancer, she showed how to live and love living a meaningful, joyful life with cancer.   She traveled between chemo treatments and she advocated for building awareness of Ovarian Cancer, a cancer that has no screen or early detection test, leaving awareness and advocacy as the only early detection test available.  To learn what the warning signs of Ovarian Cancer are, visit: https://www.ovarian.org/about-ovarian-cancer/what-are-the-signs-a-symptoms.  Kathy often spoke with Medical Students as a cancer survivor in their medical studies.  She also was an Ovarian Cancer Ambassador for Tasario/GSK where she spoke nationwide with woman, and their caregivers, newly diagnosed or in recurrence with Ovarian cancer.   She was also a beloved member of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition Delaware Valley Chapter; and served on the volunteer committee board for five years and was so surprised to receive the Volunteer of the year award two years in a row.  Kathy was dedicated in helping other women with ovarian cancer, building awareness around Ovarian Cancer, and was instrumental in organizing programs that brought women together.

In addition to her husband she is also survived by her sister Jean Hunt of Philadelphia and brother John Mahoney and his wife Patty of Eugene, Oregon, and many nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 9:30 AM, until her Funeral Mass 11:00 AM in Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Church, 1325 Upper State Road, North Wales, PA 19454.  Her interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem.

For now please consider sending a contribution in her memory to National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, (NOCC), PO Box 631, Holicong, PA 18928 or online at: https://events.ovarian.org/memorials/KathyHeck?tab=MyPage
