James P. Casey Sr. Service Information

James Patrick Casey, Sr., age 80, passed away Sat. December 12, 2020 at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne following complications of COVID-19.  He was the beloved husband for 58 years of his third grade sweetheart, the love of his life, Ann Marie (Boyce).

In addition to his wife, Ann, Jim is survived by his children, Maureen Pontarelli (Anthony), James, Jr. (Eleanor) and Mary Beth, grandchildren, Anthony, Carla, Nicholas, Mark, Madeline, Emily and Jimmy, and two grand dogs, Kirby and Rigatoni, who were always excited to see him. 

Born February 28, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA, Jim was the son of the late James and Regina (St. Clair) Casey, the brother of Maryann Taylor (late Richard), Dolores Graeff (Paul), and Patricia Sierko (late Robert).  He was pre-deceased by his sister Regina Grimmer (late Lewis) and his brothers, Richard and Joseph (Claire).  Also survived by his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Trusdell (late Raymond) and many cousins, nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Following his graduation from North Catholic High School Class of 1958, Jim joined the Army and was stationed in Seoul during the Korean War.  Upon completion of his tour, he returned to Philadelphia, and took a job with United Parcel Service.  Not long after, he started his 38-year career with SEPTA, driving the 14 Bus along Roosevelt Blvd, making friends with riders who grew to know and love his dedication.  In 1977, he was elected to serve as Secretary-Treasurer of Local 234, a position he was proud to hold.  He retired from SEPTA in 2000.

After moving from Mayfair to Newtown, PA, in 1999, Jim’s life took on new meaning.  He quickly became involved with the American Legion Morell Smith Post 440 in Newtown, serving as commander for two years. He was also an active member of the VFW Post 6383 in Yardley, PA and the AOH Newtown Chapter. Jim was a dedicated Parishioner of St. Andrew’s Parish in Newtown and would be recognized by many as an Usher at the 7:45 a.m. Mass every Sunday.  Not one to sit still, Jim worked part-time at Fred Beans Ford in Newtown, picking up and delivering new cars to customers.  He genuinely loved this job, giving him the chance to live out his two passions of driving and interacting with people. 

If you were lucky enough to be a recipient of his “business card,” you would see that he held himself out first and foremost as a “People Person.”  Jim was kind, compassionate, fun-loving, devoted, and honest.  He offered his help, even if you didn’t always want it, but would never take no for an answer.  He lived to serve others, enjoyed life and had a strong presence up until the end.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass, Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown.  Masks and Social Distancing Mandatory.  Interment will be private.
