Nicholas D. Gallo

Nicholas Daniel Gallo of Ann’s Choice Senior Living Community in Warminster died peacefully on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the Rose Garden Memory Care Center where he resided for the past two years; he was 84 years old.

Nick was the devoted husband of Rosalie Mercante Gallo with whom he had shared 61 years of marriage. He was a loving father to his three daughters; Lonni  Finocchio (Richard), Maria Cobb (Matthew) and Cecelia Gallo.  He was a wonderful grandfather to Daniel, Matthew (Nancy), Victoria, Jason, Christina and Eric; and a dear brother to Anthony Gallo.  Nick's many sisters/brothers-in-law and countless nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart.

He was born one of ten children to Nicholas and Yolanda Scipione Gallo on December 16, 1936.

Nick "Junior" spent many happy years growing up in South Philadelphia with his close-knit family.  He attended St. Monica's Parish Elementary School and Southeast Catholic High School for Boys, graduating in 1954.

Honored to serve his country in the United States Army at Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista, Arizona; he obtained the rank of Sergeant at the young age of 19.

Always the protector and guardian, he was a police officer for the Philadelphia Police Department from 1959 to 1964.

Welcomed into his father's business in the cement paving trade, he worked as foreman from 1964 to 1976.  Eventually, he started his own successful paving business; which he ran from 1976 to 1999, retiring at the age of 59.

During retirement he was on the Board of Directors of Villa Joseph Marie High School from 1998 to 2000; where he was happy to help the Sisters of St. Casimir whenever needed.

Having such a strong work ethic, he went back into the work world part time as a sidewalk inspector for Cheltenham Township; until finally retiring again in 2012.

A faithful Catholic, he was a parishioner at St. Ambrose parish for 30 years and at St. Christopher's parish for another 30 years.

Family and friends will always remember Nick's happy whistle and brilliant smile which cheered so many people over the years.

Some of his happiest moments were spent playing with his grandchildren; undoubtedly, they were some of the grandchildren's happiest moments too.

His generous nature touched many lives and will never be forgotten.

Nick's unfailing devotion to Rosalie, his daughters and their families was truly an inspiration.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 for a Viewing at 11:00 am and a Funeral Mass at 12 noon taking place at St. Christopher's Church, 13301 Proctor Road, Philadelphia, PA 19116.  His interment with Military Funeral Honors will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.

Due to Covid-19 concerns, a memorial luncheon will be postponed until a future date.

For those unable to attend the services on January 26, a live streaming of the Mass will be available to view.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Ann's Choice Benevolent Care Fund.
