George A. Bergmann Jr.
George A. Bergmann Jr. died February 8, 2021 at the Hospital of the University of PA. He was 74 years old.
He was the beloved husband of Linda Jane Clift Bergmann. The couple shared 23 years of love, family, laughter and friendship together.
George was the son of the late George A. Sr and Dorothy Kleyla Bergmann.
Known for his kindness and gentle heart, George was graceful and non-confrontational. He was a serious Lionel train collector and enjoyed going to various train shows. He loved sailboats and some of the fondest memories he had were those of sailing to the Bahamas in a boat that his brother Arthur had made. The two spent six months there together. Later, he and Linda enjoyed sailing together, particularly in the Chesapeake and various shore points.
George was a proud veteran of the Viet Nam War, He was presented the Air Medal Award and the Bronze Star. He also received a Letter of Commendation in February 1969. He had halted flames from a fire from reaching the occupants of a crashed aircraft. These occupants were saved from serious burn injuries.
George will be remembered and missed by his children, Shawn Bergmann, Eric Bergmann, Brian Bergmann and Matt Clift (Lindsay). He is also survived by his brother Arthur G. Bergmann; sister, Nancy Arnold (Ed); grandchildren, Aiden and Dylan Clift; his brothers-in-law, Robert Clift (Maryjean) and Bruce Clift (Sue); Sister-in-law, Gail Jean Uchniat (John) and his niece Charlene Curran. He was the best “Dog Dad” to Tiffany and Mickey.
Funeral services will be held privately, with a future interment at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in the spring.
