Raymond Lewis Branden, Sr.

Raymond Lewis Branden, Sr. lifelong resident of Philadelphia, died at home on Monday, February 22, 2021. He died peacefully, surrounded by his family. Ray was the beloved husband of Mary Poiron Branden; the couple shared 60 years of happiness, friendship, laughter and fond memories. When he first started out in his working career he owned and operated a chain link fence company with his son.

His love of cars showed up early in his life at age 16 when he began drag racing at the local tracks with his 62 Chevy Impala 409/409 red convertible.

Ray then decided to utilize his love of automobiles by owning and then restoring his1962 Chevrolet Impala and 1967 Chevy Camaro which both were award winning cars with his 1962 Impala earning a National Preservation award.

Ray was president of the VCCA from 1985 to 1990.

He enjoyed putting on local car shows for everyone to enjoy the hobby with all the other enthusiasts.

Working in the automotive industry and being able to meet and network with people. He was known for his “larger than life” personality and ability to talk to anyone.

Ray also enjoyed his Lionel trains. He often told people he was proud of the fact that these trains were with him since he was 4 yrs old.

His family will miss him tremendously as a wonderful and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

In addition to his loving wife Mary, Raymond will be missed and remembered by his son Raymond L., Jr. and Tami Branden; his grandchildren, Nichole and Morgan and his lifelong friend, Julius Schonberger III.

Due to the pandemic, a tribute to Ray will be planned for a future date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ray's memory may be made to PA Constellation Hospice Services at 10125 Veree Road; Suite 203 in Philadelphia, PA 19116.

“I cried when you passed away. I still cry today. Although I loved you dearly. I couldn’t make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands at rest….. God broke my heart to prove to me he only takes the best.”
