Joseph Plantulli

Joseph Plantulli of Warwick, PA passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at Chandler Hall, surrounded by the love of his family. Joseph was the loving husband of Mercedes, who passed away in 2019. They shared 63 years of marriage.

Joseph was born in Frankford, Philadelphia, PA. in 1931. He was the son of late George and Jennie Plantulli.  As a native of Frankford, he attended Frankford High School, where he played varsity baseball. Upon graduation, he played semi-professional baseball for The Holmesburg Ramblers. He was drafted and served as Corporal, 114th Quartermaster Company (GRREG) APO 59 in the Korean War.  After he was honorably discharged, he obtained his barber’s license, opening his own barber shop in Frankford, where he worked for over 50 years. During that time, he met and married Mercedes in 1956, and raised three daughters in Northeast Philadelphia. His clients became his friends and he never forgot a single name. During his career, Joseph would spend time providing haircuts to the children of St. Vincent’s Home for Children. In his later years, if you were looking for Joe, he could be found at any ball field, court, or pool following his grandchildren in their athletic endeavors. Throughout this time, all of his grandchildren’s teammates knew him as “Grandpa Joe”.

Joseph is survived by his three daughters, Denise Visco (Richard) of Doylestown, Lisa Filoon (Robert) of Blue Bell, and Anita Decker (Jeffrey) of Jamison; eight grandchildren, Dana DiOstilio (Anthony), Gina Pagano (Ryan), Richard Visco, Jr, Robert Filoon II, Gregory Filoon, Morgan Decker, Madison Decker, Jeffrey Decker, Jr., and Great-Grandson, Joseph DiOstilio. He was preceded in death by his wife Mercedes, his sister, Margaret Ceneviva, his brother Carl Plantulli, and grandson Peter Filoon.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Church, 1410 Almshouse Road, Jamison, PA 18929 from 10:00AM until his Funeral Mass at 11:00AM.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Honor Flight Philadelphia, P.O. Box #003, Broomall, PA  19008.
