William H. Smith

William H. Smith, Jr. of Newtown, died peacefully on Thursday March 18, 2021 at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, PA. He was 78.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved son of the late William H. and Beatrice M. Leitz Smith. Bill was a former resident of Lawndale and an active parishioner of St. Williams Parish for many years.  He was a graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School, class of 1960. He continued his education at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, in Wynnewood where he received a BA and then at LaSalle College in Olney.

Bill started his professional career working as an accountant for General Electric Corporation for 11 years, before joining Crown Cork & Seal Corporation. He worked for them as a Senior accountant for over 40 years. Bill was a daily communicant, as well as an active parishioner of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Newtown.  He was a Eucharist Minister, a member of the Adult Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Knights of Columbus and, for a time, served on the Parish Pastoral Council. Bill loved   music, not only listening to it but singing and playing his guitar. He also was an active volunteer at Big Brothers.  He will be remembered for his generosity of all types. Bill spent his boyhood summers in Brigantine, NJ.

Bill is survived by his 2 sisters, Rosemary M. Tragemann and her husband Tom, Bernadette M. Fuller and her husband Paul and a brother Donald T. Smith and his wife Carole. He is also survived by 4 nieces and 4 nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Saturday March 27, 2021 from 10:00 am until his Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Rd. Newtown.
