Barbara J. Howard (Stairiker)

Barbara J. Howard of Lansdale died peacefully on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Gwynedd Healthcare & Rehabilitation.  She was 89.

Barbara was the loving wife of the late James W. Howard Sr., with whom she had shared 51 years of marriage until his death in 2008. 

Born in Tacoma, WA she was the daughter of the late Charles and Helena Markovich Stairiker. 

Barbara graduate from Bishop Hallahan High School in 1949 and continued her studies at Fitzgerald Mercy Nursing School, graduating in 1952.  She led a long career as a registered nurse, first as a night supervisor for 32 years with Jeannes Hospital and later as a nurse for St. Mary’s Home in Lansdale for another 10 years. 

To say Barbara was amazing would be an understatement. She balanced working nights with raising four children and never complained.  She was devoted to her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. 

Surviving are her children, James W. Howard Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Rockledge, Michael C. Howard and his wife, Arleen of Fredericksburg, VA, Christine E. Howard of Lansdale, and Paul F. Howard and his wife, Kristen, of Warrington; her brother Charles A. Stairiker of Lansdale; her grandchildren, Kenny Erhart and his wife, Angela, Dan Erhart, Matt Howard and his wife, Jessica, Timothy Howard and his wife, Amanda, Kevin Howard and his wife, Andrea, and Elizabeth & Madeline Howard; and her great-grandchildren, Ava, Peyton, and Reily. 

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 from 9:30 – 11:15 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 900 Sumneytown Pike, Lansdale, PA 19446 where her Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30 AM.  Her interment will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Gwynedd Mercy Nursing Program, P.O. Box 901, Gwynedd Valley, PA 19437.
