Cornelius E. Leary

Cornelius E. (Neil) Leary of Furlong, passed away at his home after a year long courageous battle with metastatic melanoma, on June 8, 2021.  He was 81 years old.  Neil was a loving husband, father and grandfather, businessman and friend.  He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Joanne (Sopko) Leary.  He was born in New York City and was the son of the late Cornelius C. and Mary (Whalen) Leary.  Neil was a graduate of Manhattan Prep and Manhattan College where he earned a BBA, Accounting Major.

Neil began his career with Price Waterhouse & Co. as a Staff Accountant, moved on to Sales with IBM Corporation and then to Safeguard Business Systems where he held numerous positions including General Manager of the Eastern Division and then VP of Operations, VP of Sales  and VP of Product Development.  In his final role, he worked for Executive Sounding Board Associates Inc. as a turnaround and restructuring management and financial consultant for over 25 years.  A few of his many successes were Alfred Nipon, Alfred Angelo (acting COO), Reading Eagle, and After Six Tuxedos (acting CEO).

It was abundantly clear that Neil’s family was his greatest accomplishment.  He always found time to attend and participate in family and friend events never without his camera and so happy to share photos and create photo albums of basketball, football, baseball, field hockey and lacrosse games, music concerts and recitals and weddings, birthdays, graduations and special events of family and friends.  Everyone loved seeing his photos and receiving his albums.

Neil had a love for the Irish culture and successfully traced his lineage back to the 1700s.  He visited and photographed the O’Leary family homestead and surrounding sites, including his ancestors’ burial grounds that lie in the shadow of the only remaining octagonal Viking tower in Ireland.

Neil enjoyed many years of playing tennis with his friends and a few years of golf which always frustrated him!   Neil and Joanne especially enjoyed their trips to Ireland, Switzerland and a rivercruise on the Danube in addition to trips to Hilton Head and Florida.

In addition to his wife, Joanne, Neil is survived by his children and their spouses:  Neil, Jr. and Leigh Ann Leary of Virginia Beach, VA; Susan and Ralph LoStracco of Chalfont; and Eileen and Tim Ernst of Erdenheim. He is also survived by his brother, Arthur, and Jane Leary of Plymouth, MA; and his beloved grandchildren, Cornelius Leary, III, Patrick Leary, Joseph LoStracco, Matthew LoStracco, Meghan LoStracco and Sean Ernst.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet Neil’s family on Monday, June 14: 2021 from 10:00 AM until his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 235 East State Street, Doylestown.  Interment in historic Doylestown Cemetery will follow. The Funeral Mass will be live-streamed for those of his family and friends who cannot attend.  Kindly refer to this page to view this service.
