Anthony F. Walsh

Anthony “Tony” F. Walsh, of Newtown, PA died on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Doylestown Hospital.  He was 78 years old.  He was the husband of the late Angela Walsh who died in 1998 and the long-time companion of Christine McKee.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Tony was the son of the late Francis M. and Mary Walsh and brother of the late Patricia Hudak.

Tony graduated from Father Judge High School and La Salle University in Philadelphia.  After finishing college, he enlisted in the United States Navy and attended Officer Candidate School in Annapolis, MD and Newport, RI.  While there, he met and later married his wife, Angela.  He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, completing a tour of duty on a destroyer in the Pacific.  After returning home, Tony continued to serve in the United States Naval Reserve for many years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

Tony attended graduate school at George Washington University in Washington, DC, earning a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.  He and Angela also started a family during this time and their daughter, Jeanne, was born.  After Tony graduated, the young family returned to the Philadelphia area and eventually settled in Newtown, PA.  Tony began his professional career with New Jersey Bell Telephone Company, a predecessor to Verizon.  Tony worked in various executive roles within New Jersey Bell, BellCore, Bell Atlantic, and Verizon, for over 30 years before transitioning to a well-earned retirement.

In retirement Tony remained very active, frequently playing tennis and socializing with his playing partners.  He took pride in his garden, particularly his rosebushes and his home-grown vegetables.  Tony was a lifelong football fan and enthusiastic supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles.  In quieter moments, Tony enjoyed the challenge of the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle.  Tony and Christine were fortunate to travel extensively across the United States and Europe, sharing many adventures together.  Tony was a longtime member of American Legion Morell Smith Post 440 and St. Andrew Catholic Church in Newtown.

In addition to his long-time companion, Christine, Tony is survived by his daughter Jeanne Walsh Stockman, her long-time companion James Nichols, and her three daughters Claire, Vanessa, and Juliet, all of Cary, NC.  Tony is also survived by his sister Mary Ellen Krum of Dunlap, IL, and her husband, Bill.  Tony’s three granddaughters were the apples of his eye and they always looked forward to spending precious time together.  Tony was so proud of the people they were becoming.  Tony was also blessed with a large extended family, including nieces, nephews, their families, and Christine’s siblings and their spouses who loved Tony like a brother.  Tony was also fortunate to have many truly wonderful neighbors and friends.

Tony’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, June 20, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home at 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Road), Richboro, PA 18954.  Another time for visitation will be on Monday, June 21, 2021, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown from 10:00 AM until his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM.  The interment will be private.
