Joseph John Whelan

Our world has lost a good one.  On August 27,2021, our brother Joseph John Whelan, age unknown ( yes the mysteries of Joe will live on), collapsed while participating in one of his favorite races, Hood to Coast relay in Oregon.

Joe was known for his fun loving, kindhearted ways.  He was quick to lend you a hand, regale you with potentially true stories, buy you a beer at a favorite pub (or pubs as the case may be) or simply be there as a friend.  He was deeply cherished by his colleagues at Congregation Emanu -El who appreciated that he made work interesting and fun.  He will be deeply missed by his innumerable friends who he coached, encouraged, made laugh and ran beside for the past 20 plus years in San Francisco. His loss will also be felt by all the bartenders who work at the quality establishments between work and home. He leaves a gaping hole in the hearts of his large and tight-knit family who haven't celebrated a single event no matter how large or small without spreading the rumor that Joe was home - he had just stepped out for the moment.

Joe is survived by his dog Asics; his siblings, Mary Frances, Jim, Cathy, John, Tom, Peg and Rose; his in-laws, Mark, Ginger, Chris, Misty, Suzy and Brian; his nieces and nephews too numerous to post all of their names here; and countless, countless friends.

His memorial in San Francisco is being livestreamed and you can view it at https://emanuelsf.livecontrol.tv/794b7ff3

Joe's family will recieve relatives and friends on Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 10:00am until his Memorial Service at 11:00AM in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Rd.) Richboro, PA 18954.  His interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to either the Impact Fund at Emanu-El https://www.emanuelsf.org/impact/ or the San Fransicso SPCA https://www.sfspca.org
