James Michael Callahan Jr.

James Michael Callahan, Jr. died peacefully on May 4, 2022, at Ann’s Choice, Warminster, in the company of loving family. He was 87.

James was the husband of Mary Jane (McMahon) Callahan, to whom he was married for 62 years.  James was born in Philadelphia and was raised in Queens, NY.  His family returned to the Philadelphia area while he was in college and he was a fan of all Philadelphia teams for the next 65 years.  James graduated from Niagara University.

James and Mary Jane raised their family in Churchville and Richboro.  During those years James enjoyed tennis, attending Kiwanis meetings, reading to his children, and teaching them checkers and chess.  He was also known to randomly break into song.  Throughout life James loved to dance, read, and to learn.  He was a teacher at heart and enjoyed a long career as a high school teacher in Philadelphia, many of those years at Germantown and Martin Luther King High Schools.  He also worked with his father and brother at Callahan Trucking.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by children Sheila Callahan (Peter Keenan), Jim Callahan (Cindy), John Callahan (Shannon), and Jason Callahan (Donna Mannarino); sisters Meg Callahan, Beth McKenna, and Anne Crews; as well as grandchildren Aislinn, Owen, Kayla, Kellie, Olivia, John Patrick, and Rose.  He is preceded in death by brother Patrick.

Relatives and friends are invited to join James’ family at his viewing on May 13, 2022, from 10:00 AM until his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM, Chapel of St. Louise de Marillac at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 654 Hatboro Road, Richboro, PA 18954.
