Gerson J. Alexander

Gerson (Jerry) Alexander, of Feasterville, left this world peacefully on Thursday, June 2, 2022. He was 85.

Jerry was the only son of Philip and Ida Alexander (Horovitz). His parents and his beloved younger sister, Anita Alexander (Hearn), lived above the family’s grocery store at Columbia and Girard Avenues in Philadelphia. He enjoyed working in the store from an early age. Jerry met Joan A. Taffe, and they married at nineteen. Joan and Jerry had three wonderful daughters, Patti Cullen, Lynda Alexander, and Karen Alexander. Joan passed away in 1996 after forty-one years of marriage.

Jerry's life was filled with loving parents, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins. There were many family characters and the uncles even had Jerry driving at the age of fourteen. Sundays were always special, the day off when everyone went out for breakfast or lunch and took rides outside of the city. Summers were often spent in Atlantic City. Jerry’s dad (Phil) would drive the family down the shore for Sunday afternoons.

Jerry grew up in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia then raised his family in Northeast Philadelphia until their move to Holland, Bucks County, PA in 1972.

If you asked a hundred people who Jerry was, they’d all tell a different story. An avid (and pretty good) golfer. A talented artist. A gardener. An emcee. A trained dancer. A sports fan and player. A salesman. He was all these things and so much more.

In his teens, Jerry and his sister, Anita, danced on stages, winning awards from Philly to Atlantic City. His tap dancing and jitterbug skills made for some great entertainment, both semi-professionally and at private family events. He also had a terrific singing voice and was known to break into song at any moment. Jerry had a passion and talent for creating colorful artwork that is displayed throughout his extended families’ homes. He was quite proud of his golfing abilities and was always available to instruct friends on how to swing a golf club. Jerry treasured his time with his family and was quite the prankster at their annual family gatherings.  (Just ask any member of the family about the Elephant Clock.)

Jerry is survived by his dear daughters: Patti A. Cullen and her husband Sean of Feasterville, and Karen D. Alexander of Mount Laurel, NJ and his sister Anita Hearn of North Port, Florida. He is the proud grandfather of Bryan P. Alexander, Nicole Cullen, Ashley Hall (Jason), Amanda Duffin, and for the last four years he loved being great grandfather (PopPop) of Greyson, Malani, Allyson and Jaxon. He is also survived by his beloved girlfriend Jeanmarie Foy. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Lynda Alexander and brother-in-law Robert Hearn.

Jerry’s family will receive condolences on Sunday, June 12, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until his Celebration of Life at12:00 Noon at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road, (at Holland Rd.), Richboro. PA. His interment will be private.

Contributions in his memory may be made to “Soroptimist International of Indian Rock,” P.O. Box 1061, Newtown, PA 18940, for the “Dream It, Be It: Career Support For Girls” program.
