M. Claire Lomax, Esq.

Mary Claire Lomax. M. Claire Lomax, Esq. MCL.

The common denominator is Claire - which means clear in French. Claire was always clear – and balanced. In addition to a great sense of humor, Claire accepted all with unconditional love. She cherished her relationships and was a leader in social settings, civic organizations, and in the corporate world. She made a peaceful transition on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

Claire was an incredible mother raising two children – a daughter Dylan, and a stepson Jared, providing a nurturing home in which they developed and thrived. Claire had a lifelong passion for the creative and performing arts, inspiring her daughter Dylan to pursue her dream of a career in theater. In addition to her children, she is survived by her mother, five siblings, 16 nieces and nephews, one great niece, her ex-husband and a large network of beloved family, friends, and colleagues.

Claire was a brilliant attorney, serving over 30 years as the General Counsel for The Lomax Companies where she worked closely with her father and her five siblings. She had a passion for philanthropy, helping to launch The Lomax Family Foundation (LFF) and serving as its CEO for almost 20 years. Claire served on numerous boards including the African American Museum in Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Award, the William Penn Foundation, and the Board of Trustees for the University of Pennsylvania where she served on numerous committees. In 2016, Claire was selected by the Governor to be a Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania.

Claire is a graduate of George School, received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, and received a J.D. from Georgetown Law School. She was licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Never one to bite her tongue, Claire was outspoken about issues related to diversity, and advocated for African American inclusion in the leadership and governance of major civic organizations.

A celebration of life is being planned for the Fall of 2022. She will be sorely missed for her unique blend of wit, humor, brilliance, kindness and creativity.
