Obituaries Gregory Scott Grace
Gregory Scott Grace of Washington Crossing, PA passed away suddenly on July 2, 2022 at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne. He was 65.
Born in Pottstown he was the beloved husband of Emily DeWitt Grace for the past 32 years. He was the son of the late George Albert Grace and Ruth Hedrick Grace.
Greg was a graduate of Pottsgrove High School, class of 1974 and received his degree in Actuarial Science from Lebanon Valley College, Annville, Pennsylvania in 1978.
Greg’s professional career spanned many years working as an Actuary for several Fortune 500 Insurance Companies including Cigna, Reliance, American Reliance, and ARI. After finding his niche and his expertise, he founded Grace Actuarial Consultants and was the CEO until he retired.
He was a man of many talents and interests - he loved rock music and listened to WMMR radio daily and was a Star Trek and Marvel Comic aficionado. A true Philadelphia sports supporter of the Eagles and the Phillies, he and Emily attended Phillies spring training in Clearwater, FL for several years.
Greg also played volleyball, softball, and basketball and enjoyed skiing, swimming, playing with his kids and his grandchild in the swimming pool. At 6’7” tall he was easily recognized wherever he went.
Greg was an avid and focused runner - he was a member of the Bucks County Road Runners (BCRR) for many years and served as club president from 2004-2008. Greg ran over 30 marathons, many of them after his Parkinson’s diagnosis. In addition, he organized and led teams in the River to Sea Relay race for several years. His greatest joy was qualifying for and completing the Boston Marathon several times.
The onset of his Parkinson’s Disease did not prevent him from continuing to run and participate in the BCRR. He continued to run or walk and then attend and volunteer at races to support other runners. Greg participated in many fund-raising races for the benefit of Parkinson’s research.
He was well known for his quick wit and will be deeply missed for his warm and welcoming smile as well as his generosity and encouragement of fellow runners.
Greg loved vacationing with his family at the beach in Rehoboth, Delaware and frequented many Grotto Pizza restaurants there. He was well known to many of the staff throughout the years and especially remembered as being the guy who always reminded them that the time on their clock tower was incorrect.
In addition to his beloved wife Emily, he is survived by his daughter Christine Marie Grace and her fiancé Daniel Gallant, his son Andrew Scott Grace, his sister Linda Van Pelt, and a granddaughter Aubree Elizabeth Grace, two nieces, Jackie Bostock and her husband Simon and Allison Van Pelt and a great nephew, Grayson Bostock.
Greg’s family will hold a celebration of his life on Sunday August 7th starting at 11 am with Words of Remembrance at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.), Richboro, PA 18954.
Immediately following all are invited to join the family at Tyler Park, Lower Planation Picnic Area for fellowship, story sharing, and picnic fare. Casual attire is requested.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Greg’s memory to the Parkinson Alliance (parkinsonalliance.org) would be appreciated.
