William J. Popp, Jr.

William J. Popp, Jr., of Zieglerville, PA, died peacefully on Wednesday evening August 31, 2022 at Pottstown Hospital. He was 94 years young.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved husband of 69 years to the late Marie A. Feiler Popp who died in March of 2020. He was the son of late William J. Sr. and Rose Beounitis Popp, dear Pop-pop of the late Erica Popp.

Bill was a talented Tool and Die worker at the Budd plant in Hunting Park, PA, manufacturing Ford van bodies and chassis.  He loved riding his Indian motorcycle (until an accident put an end to it).  He met his wife through a co-worker and future brother-in-law, Ted Cygan.  They lived in a small home in Northeast Philly and after a few years, moved to a larger home in then rural Bucks County.  He continually improved that home with his handyman skills, adding an extra bedroom, carport, large stone fireplace, and extensive landscape gardens.  He grew a variety of flowers each year from seed.  When he sold the home 67 years later, the listing described the yard as a miniature Longwood Gardens, containing a gazebo, wandering paths, trellis, large mature trees, and multiple flower beds. Bill was also a skilled craftsman, creating one-of-a-kind arts and crafts, delighting his family and neighbors.

Bill was loved by all; a very outgoing and loving husband and father.  When his children were young, he was a devoted volunteer, leading as a creative and energetic Cub Scout Masterfor several years. Later in life, he was a volunteer at Warminster General Hospital, providing transport to wheelchair bound patients and logging thousands of hours.  In his elderly years at Frederick Living Assisted Living Community, he was the unofficial “mayor”, sitting out at the entrance, talking to fellow residents, welcoming the package delivery personnel and acknowledging Frederick staff at shift changes.

Bill is survived by his devoted children; Kathy and her husband Jim Lookenbill of Hatboro, Tom and his wife Katie of Skippack, Jim and his wife Susan of Audubon, and Dave Popp of Warminster. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren; Jennifer, Kevin, Dana, Cory and Peri and four super great grandchildren; Raymond, Rachel, Juniper and Mira.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Thursday September 8, 2022 from 10:00am until his Funeral Service 11:00am in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Hatboro.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Frederick Benevolent Fund, 2849 Big Road, Zieglerville, PA 19492.
