Barbara Janice Glosson (Sutliff)
Barbara Janice Glosson passed peacefully from this world surrounded by her children and grandchildren on September 5, 2022 at St Mary's Medical Center, Newtown, PA. She was 90.
Born in Pittston, PA, she was the daughter of the late James and Anna Sutliff. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Charles, and her daughter, Barbara Anne Glosson.
Barbara was the beating heart of her family, a rational and stabilizing force weathering life's invariable ups and downs. A resilient optimist, Barbara would always move forward after a setback such as occurred with the loss of her daughter Barbara to leukemia in 1963. With unshakeable faith in God and unwavering support for her local church, Barbara kept her parents' faith and set a fair, moral, honest and responsible example for her children and husband to emulate.
It was impossible not to love Barbara. Her life was characterized by lifelong, enduring friendships, some spanning 80+ years back to her kindergarten days. She graduated from Little Flower High School in 1950 and for as long as they were able, well into the 2010s, her group of school friends would meet for regular luncheons. Barbara loved this tradition and many others. She took special joy in decorating the house for Christmas and in later years delegated that joy to her children who were supervised closely all the while. She had opinions on how everything should look!
Barbara loved the telephone. She used it extensively to cultivate her friendships and stay close to her children who lived either cross town or cross country. She had an outstanding memory and deep empathy. She had a wonderful laugh and phone conversations were at times breezy, other times serious. You always knew Barbara listened and cared and remembered what you last entrusted to her. In later years, she loved Facebook and her Facebook friends will be saddened by the sudden disappearance of her recommended kielbasa recipes from their news feeds.
Professionally, after high school Barbara was employed by Philco Corporation of Kensington as a typist in the technical publications office dedicated to the US Army. Later, Barbara returned to the workforce as an administrative assistant at the Bucks County Courthouse in Doylestown. She worked for 23 years until 1998 in the Department of Emergency Management Services planning and executing governmental response to flood, fire, chemical spills and other disasters.
Barbara is survived by her loving and devoted children: Charles R. Glosson and his wife Christine of Collegeville, PA, John F. Glosson of Walnut Creek, CA, Meg Glosson and her husband Greg Capretto of Holland, PA, and James G. Glosson and his wife Lisa of Churchville, PA. She is also survived by eight loving grandchildren.
