Richard Douglas Copeland

Richard Copeland, 73, of Jamison, PA passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA.

Richard was the loving husband of Elaine K Patelunas Copeland. The couple shared over 20 years of marriage.

Born February 6, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA, Rich was the son of the late Clifford Gerald and Doris Klink Copeland. He was the son-in-law of the late Lawrence Patelunas Sr.; and he was the brother-in-law of the late Diana Hoffman.

Rich earned a Bachelor’s degree from Temple University and a Master’s degree from University of West Virginia in Music Education. He played the clarinet in three community bands, Tri-County Band, Montgomery County Concert Band, and Old Comrades. He performed with Windjammers (circus music band). He belonged to the Jenkintown Christian Science Church. Following his love of trains, he was treasurer for the National Railway Historical Society, enjoyed reading books about trains and loved train trips.

Following graduation, Rich went to work for Amtrak for 40 years.   He was a Supervisor and then was a ticket receiver.   He was in charge of collecting money from the conductors and would audit them to make sure all of the money was turned in correctly.   He also traveled in the United States teaching new conductors how to collect money and how to do the paperwork. Rich also worked for H & R Block for 16 years doing taxes.

In addition to playing in 3 community bands, Rich played at the Liberty Classic Community Band Festivals in Williamsport, PA; Association of Concert Bands conventions; Northeast Instrumental Music Festivals in Lake Placid, New York; and in the Williamsburg Consortium in Virginia.

In addition to his wife Elaine, Rich will be missed and remembered by his brother, Clifford Bruce Copeland and his wife Betsy; his sister, Linda Daniels and her husband Norman; six nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; mother-in-law Katherine Patelunas and brother-in-law, Leo Hoffman.

Rich’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 from 9:30am, until the start of his Funeral Mass at 11:30am at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Church at 1401 Almshouse Road in Jamison, PA 18929. His interment will take place privately in Lawnview Cemetery.
