Derek Kirner Maier

Derek Kirner Maier, 64, passed away after a long illness on September 7, 2022 at Liberty Point Nursing Home.

He was born February 8, 1958 in Doylestown, PA, the son of William Reinhart Maier and Jean Cross Maier.

Derek resided in New Hope,PA for most of his life, being a 1977 Alumnus of New Hope-Solebury High School. Derek was mechanically inclined and a craftsman by nature. He worked as a contractor in restoration construction for many years.

He was an avid outdoorsman with interests in sailing, skiing, mini- bike riding and camping. He was a soccer enthusiast and took every chance to teach his children's soccer teams. He is remembered for his generosity, humor, passionate love for people and all animals, and his readiness to offer an immediate hand to anyone.

He was best known for making children laugh, calling them “sportnic!” He was truly a “kid at heart,” himself.

In addition to his parents, Derek was predeceased by his sister, Maren M. Herz. He is survived by his life partner, Kathleen Quinn (where they lived in Pipersville) of Seattle, WA;  his children  Dan Scott and his partner, Allie Clarke of Warminster, (Sara Mirales, mother); Colin and partner, Sarah, of Melbourne, Australia; Stephen and spouse, Juliette, of Philadelphia, PA; Sophia and spouse, Matthew, of Chalfont, PA (Elizabeth Stephano mother and ex-wife); his grandchildren Joan Maier, Waylon Achuff, Daniel Scott Jr. and Logan Scott; his siblings Jean C. Maier of Eugene, OR; William R. Maier Jr. and spouse, Thèrese Hattemer, of Arlington, MA; and Jill A. Maier of Doylestown, PA; and many much loved nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, close cousins; and a large circle of devoted friends.

A service of remembrance will be held on September 24, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church 1680 Aquetong Rd., New Hope, PA 18938.
