Julius John Schonberger III Service Information

Julius John Schonberger, III, of Philadelphia, PA passed on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Temple University Hospital, Jeanes Campus. He was 79.

He was the beloved husband of 51 years to Barbara Brownstein Schonberger.

Born in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of the late Julius J. Schonberger Jr. and Geniveve Kazeski Schonberger.

Julius was a good man and great provider for his family. He was married to his wife Barbara for more than 50 years, and had two sons that he loved dearly, Jay and Richard.

Julius’s, “Jules”, career began as an automotive parts salesman. Jules was a master salesman. His career in sales went to the top as he outsold any other salesperson working for the same company. In 1987, Jules’s sales career had come to an end as he decided to open his own business selling auto parts. With his parts business doing so well, he decided in 1991, to move his business to a new location. He built a large building to accommodate his expanded business and continue to grow his passion of building race engines. That business has exploded and now not only includes his performance engine business, but also a full racing parts manufacturing facility. This business today is run by Jules’s two sons.

Jules always had a passion for cars as a kid. He loved to work on them and learn everything there was to know about engines. As his knowledge of combustion engines thrived, he incorporated that into a hobby that lasted for more than 6 decades of drag racing cars. Jules had knowledge that was second to none when it came to building engines. He not only built engines for himself, but he did for other people as well. His accomplishments in drag racing and his famed, “Paper Lion”, will never be forgotten, with race wins, records set, and inductions into two hall of fames.

Jules’s passion for racing was also picked up by his two sons. As Jules got older he put his own racing aside to focus more on his two boys. This led to a very successful career for both boys, including race wins, and multiple records set. Jules’s love for racing has even trickled down to his grandchildren, Madison (14), and JJ (13) who both race in a Junior Drag Racing class.

Jules loved spending time in Florida as he owned a home there spending most of the winters in his later years. Some of Jules other loves included working on and driving corvettes and his passion for singing, especially karaoke. Through his singing hobby, Jules met a lot of great people that became lifelong friends.

Jules will never be forgotten for his accomplishments in life, and a well-lived life it was. He was able to see things and do things that most people don’t get the chance to do. He will be deeply missed by his family, but the leader he was and the knowledge that he passed on will live forever.

He is survived by his two sons, Julius "Jay" Schonberger IV and his wife Kim of Philadelphia and Richard Schonberger and his wife Kimberly of Southampton, his sister-in-law, Lesley Nicol of Doylestown and brother-in-law of the late James Nicol, and his 3 nephews. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Madison L. Schonberger and Julius J. Schonberger V.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing, Friday, November 11, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. Services to be held at 11:00 A.M. in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd) Richboro, PA 18954. His interment will follow in Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge.
