George W Kelly Jr.
George W. Kelly, Jr., a retired police officer and US Marine Corp veteran, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Maureen, along with their children Janette and her husband Matt, Tommy and his wife Mary Kate, David and his wife Meghan, and Alexa and her fiancé André. He was also beloved Pop Pop to Maxine, Leeland, and Nolan.
A patriot to the core, George was born on July 4, 1950, in Philadelphia, PA to the late George William Kelly, Sr. and Alberta Buonavolta Kelly. He is also survived by his three sisters – Kathleen, Karen, and Kim – who were always loved and an important part of his life.
George lived his life exhibiting the values, discipline, and moral code learned through a lifetime of commitment to public service – first as a Marine and then later as a police officer. George spent the first half of his 43-year law enforcement career with the Philadelphia Police Department. He then continued his career with the Northampton Township Police Department where he retired.
George’s love of country – and the Marine Corps specifically – was always evident, from raising a flag at home every day, to the many Marine Corps hats he would wear, as well as serving as the Commandant of the Bucks County Marine Corps League.
In George's recreational time, he shared his love of American history, gardening, and music with his family. In his younger years, he was an avid skier and ice hockey player. He also loved boating, riding his motorcycle, and jumping from planes. However, a long night of karaoke with family and friends is where he really shined.
A lifelong dream of George's was to head to the Jersey shore after retirement. So, 'On the Way to Cape May' it was for him and Maureen. Happy summers were spent together taking the grandchildren to experience the beach, lighthouse, and boardwalk.
Most of all, though, George loved the stillness of watching the beautiful sunsets at his home by the bay.
Family and friends are invited to greet George’s family on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 10 a.m. until his Celebration of Life at 12:00 p.m. at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown Richboro Rd (at Holland Rd.), Richboro, PA.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
