Mary Jane Clemens (Myers)

Mary Jane Clemens, 91, of Chalfont, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley F. Clemens, who passed away in 2014.

Born November 30, 1931 in Chalfont, she was the daughter of the late George and Martha (Moyer) Myers.

Everyone that knew Mary Jane knew her as a busy, involved woman. Professionally she started her career at Bell Telephone but spent most of her life as Chalfont Boro Tax Collector and, prior to retirement, Accounting Administrator for Central Bucks School District.  A lifelong Chalfont resident, she was passionate about sharing the history of her town and community, including writing a book on the history of Chalfont and New Britain.  She was also deeply involved in local politics, starting as a teen, babysitting while parents voted and continuing through her term as President of the Republican Women and several years as local Judge of Elections.

Outside of her job and raising children, Mary Jane was generous with her time to many other organizations.  Across her life she spent substantial time involved with many local groups:  Lenape Valley Recreation Council (past President); Girl Scouts (Senior Leader of Brownies and Juniors for many years); Chalfont Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary for over 60 years, including as a volunteer EMT and financial secretary of the Auxiliary; Doylestown Nature Club; and Bucks County Historical Society (Board member).  She definitely left her mark on the many organizations where she shared her time.

A social butterfly, she also loved getting together with friends, telling stories about growing up in Chalfont, telling a good joke, traveling and lunching with friends, old and new.

Martin Luther King Jr. once said “the quality, not the longevity, of one’s life is what is important”.  We were all fortunate that Mary Jane experienced both.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, and four brothers, Henry, Russell, Willard and Myles.  Survivors include three children, Cindey Mingin-Merrick and her husband Bill, Laurie McIntyre and her husband Bill, and Helen Clemens; five grandchildren, Richard Mingin, Kate Mingin, Stacey Mauger, Jillian Clemens and Gretchen Clemens (her very best friend and all-purpose helper); seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on February 18, 2023 from 9:00 am until the memorial service at 11:00am at Chalfont United Methodist Church, 11 Meadowbrook Ln, Chalfont. Interment will be held privately.

Contributions in Mary Jane’s name can be made to Chal-Brit EMS, Chalfont Fire Company, Doylestown Hospital or the charity of your choice.
