Anne R. Papay (McDermott)

Anne R. Papay (née McDermott) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 28, 2023, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 66 years old.

Anne was the beloved wife of Paul M. Papay, Sr. for over 46 years. Truly the girl next door, Anne met Paul when she moved to Bucks County in the eighth grade. They were neighbors and childhood sweethearts. Paul was the love of her life. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Anne was the sixth of eight children of the late William J. and Frances Lacey McDermott. She is the loving mother of Jennifer A. Papay (Bridget Scanlan), Laura P. Egan (Michael) and the late Paul M. Papay, Jr.  She was devoted to her seven grandsons: Tripp, Mickey, William, Finn, John, Timmy and Luke.  They were her greatest joy. She will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

For more than 25 years, Anne worked for St. Andrew School, first as an assistant in the preschool and for over a decade, in the front office. She was the first smiling face students saw as they came to school each morning. An integral member of the St. Andrew parish since 1983, Anne was committed to her faith and her community.

The sister of the late Thomas McDermott, Anne is also survived by six siblings: Mary Connelly, James McDermott, Kevin McDermott, Frances Puleo, William McDermott and Beth Fitzpatrick.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet Anne’s family on Friday, February 3, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940. A Mass of Christian Burial and Words of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 11:45am (no morning viewing) at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940.  Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 291 Durham Road, Newtown, PA 18940. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted in Anne’s memory to The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org) and to Autism Cares (www.autismcaresfoundation.org).
