Jack B. Stanton

Jack B. Stanton passed away peacefully at his home in Perkasie, PA on Monday, January 30, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was 79 years old. Jack was the beloved husband of Mary Ellen McNulty Stanton for 56 years.

Born on August 28, 1943 in Pittston, he was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Berlew Stanton.

Jack grew up in Harding working in his family’s greenhouse business and spent his free time hunting and fishing. He graduated from West Pittston High School in 1961 where he was a standout football player, javelin thrower, and bowler. He met his high school sweetheart, Mary Ellen, at 16 with whom he would later raise a family and spend most of their lives in Doylestown.

Jack graduated from Bloomsburg State College in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and obtained a Master of Education with a Certification in Administration from Temple University. He started his career as a math and science teacher at Red Lion Elementary School in Huntingdon Valley. He would later be promoted to principal at 26 years old, becoming the youngest principal in the state of Pennsylvania. By the time he was 30, Jack was principal of not one, but two elementary schools.

Knowing he wanted to be his own boss, Jack decided to leave education and start his own business. In 1981, he opened Stanton Beverage in Lansdale, keeping the local community supplied with beer, soda, snacks, and winning lottery tickets. Jack expanded his business by forming a partnership with Ale & Beer Seller in Norristown. After 28 years in the beverage industry, he decided to retire and devote more time to his hobbies.

Jack enjoyed tearing up the golf course with many different groups of friends. He played rounds in Pennsylvania several days a week and loved being a member of Naples Lakes Country Club. He looked forward to hosting his family in Naples every Thanksgiving and Easter, teaching golf to his grandchildren, and taking his family to his favorite restaurants.

Over the years, Jack was a regular at the Doylestown Inn and Perkins, where his coffee was always black and his bacon always crisp. On weekday mornings, his breakfast club members met to solve the world’s most pressing problems.

Jack invested in Doylestown real estate and was a student of the stock market, regularly educating his friends on Cramer’s picks and his own based upon his daily reading of The Wall Street Journal and Barron’s.

Jack was a selfless man. He was a proud husband, father and grandfather. He relished being involved in his children and grandchildren’s lives.  One of his greatest pleasures was being Grand Jack and cheering for his three grandchildren at their sporting events and performances.

Jack was a friend to many who loved his easy going personality, generous spirit, passionate political views, and unwavering support for the Eagles.

Along with his wife Mary Ellen, Jack will be missed tremendously by his daughters, Tara Stanton of Washington, D.C. and Erin Schlitt of Phoenixville, and her husband Kevin; his grandchildren, Logan, Colin and Brendan; his brother, Charles Stanton and his wife Judy; his niece, Laurie Cieciuch, and nephews, Billy and Sean Stanton. Jack was predeceased by his son, Brett Stanton, and half-brother, Lee Stanton.

Jack’s family would like to publicly thank Roger Njike of Barnaby’s Home Health Care for providing such compassionate care and support, ensuring that Jack had the best quality of life.

Relatives and friends may greet Jack’s family on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. until the start of his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 235 E. State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901. Jack’s interment will take place privately on a later date.
