Betty J. Dixon (Webb)

Betty J. Dixon 95 of Warminster died peacefully on Feb. 19, 2023. She was the beloved wife of 72 years to John J. Dixon, Esq. She is survived by her devoted children: Mark Dixon of Hatboro, Debra DeCarlo of Warminster, Barbara Dixon and her husband Addison Parker of Waco, KY, Sharon Dixon of Pottstown, Carolyn Kramer and her husband Michael of Kingwood, TX, and Paul Dixon of Quakertown. She was also the loving mother of the late Matthew Dixon, and mother-in-law to the late Dennis DeCarlo. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and was awaiting the birth of an eleventh great grandchild.

Betty was born on December 27, 1927 in Philadelphia to the late Raymond Andrew and Marian Cartwright Williams Webb. She was pre-deceased by her only sibling, William. She grew up in Ocean City NJ and in Philadelphia, and graduated from Little Flower High School in Philadelphia and Chestnut Hill College with a degree in Chemistry.

During college, she spent summers with friends in Ocean City, where they enjoyed the beach during the day and worked as waitresses in the evening to make money for school.

She married John Dixon in 1950 and subsequently gave birth to seven children. In the early years, the Dixon family lived on Briar Rd. and then Ogontz Ave. in Philadelphia. In 1969, they moved to McGlynn Rd. in Warminster. And for the last eight years, Betty and John were residents at Ann’s Choice Senior Living Community in Warminster.

Betty spent the first 20 years of married life devoted to raising her family. But as the children began to move on so did she, going on to spend the next 20 years of her life building a professional career. Around the time she welcomed her first grandchild in 1975, Betty dusted off her chemistry degree from Chestnut Hill College and joined Proctor and Gamble’s Vicks Division where she worked as a micro-biologist for nearly two decades.

Until the Covid pandemic in 2020 forced Betty to stay close to home, she maintained an active daily schedule. She attended mass every day at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Southampton, and was recognized by name in many area stores and shops. She was an enthusiastically social person who made friends everywhere she went. She accumulated a long list of connections and friendships that she maintained throughout her life with honest delight and genuine interest, in person, by phone, and through writing.

For years, she was a Eucharistic Minister of the Catholic Church, a role in which she carried Communion to the homes of the sick and infirm. She was a perfect choice for the duty, as homebound parishioners were able to receive Holy Communion as well as a heartening visit from a social angel.

When they retired, Betty and John enjoyed extensive traveling. They visited Japan and Europe and Alaska, and used their RV to motor through all 48 continental United States. In the family’s early years, Betty was the primary preparer of meals and was a more than competent cook, however later in life she graciously permitted husband John free reign in the kitchen which was something he enjoyed.

She loved cats and at various times over the years maintained long relationships with a few notable ones, including Cleo, Buffy, and Minky.

She was blessed with endearing quirks. She loved to read, especially mysteries. However before starting a new book, she insisted on reading the final pages first to make sure “I’ll like the ending.” And as motor traffic increased in her hometown of Warminster, she grew to dislike making left turns in front of oncoming traffic, so planned her driving routes to reach her destination making only right turns.

Grandchildren include: Shawn (Jennifer) DeCarlo, Kevin (Kristi) DeCarlo, Nick (Kiel) DeCarlo, Laura (Joe) Martin (nee Parker), Geoff (Meg) Parker, Meghan (Sean) Hipley (nee Kramer), Cait Kramer, Thomas Kramer, Emily Dixon and Luke Dixon.  Great-grandchildren include: Jonah, Logan, Carter, and Oliver DeCarlo; Jude, Clive, Seth, and Oak Martin; and Hazel and Clara Parker.
