Joseph A Traub

Joseph Allen Traub passed away on February 19, 2023, in Philadelphia, PA, after a brief hospitalization. He was born on March 2, 1950, to Edwin H. Traub, Sr. and Helen Hooley Traub, and raised in Richboro, PA. Joe attended Council Rock High School, where he played basketball and varsity soccer, and was elected president of his senior class. After graduating in 1968, Joe enlisted in the Army and completed basic and advanced training at Fort Bragg, NC, and Fort Belvoir, VA, respectively. He served in Thailand with the Army Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam War, specializing in heavy equipment repair and maintenance, and was honorably discharged in 1971. After returning home and working as a skilled mechanic, Joe joined the Northampton Police Department in 1973 and became an accomplished and well-respected member of the Accident Investigation Detail. He retired from the force in 2003 having achieved the rank of Sergeant. Joe was also a member of the Northampton Township Fire Company.

Joe was and is still beloved by many, and while fiercely independent, he would be the first person to lend support whenever needed. He had a unique sense of humor that was both dry and joyful, and a distinct, infectious laugh. Joe was deeply curious about the world, and yet loyal to his home in Bucks County. He found beauty and wonder in both nature and machinery. Joe appreciated history, art, and music, and enjoyed bowling, fishing, traveling to the mountains or NASCAR races with friends, and spending time with his siblings, nieces, grandnephew, and daughter. He was a tremendous man with a big heart and will be profoundly missed.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Margaret Brennan and son-in-law, William O’Connor, of Philadelphia, PA; sister Myra Miller of Kennett Square, PA; sister Susan Wilton (Vincent Wilton) of Hatboro, PA; brother Edwin H. Traub (Barbara Traub) of Doylestown, PA; nieces Kimberlee Traub of Philadelphia, PA, Kathrin Traub of Quakertown, PA, Karen Wilton of Willow Grove, PA, and Kris Wilton (Justin Baker), of Cambridge, MA; and grandnephew Jonah Baker.

His family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, March 9, 2023 from 10:00 am until his service at 11:30 am at Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.), Richboro, PA, followed by an internment with military honors at Washington Crossing National Cemetery at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the National Audubon Society, Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve, or any nature conservation organization of your choice.
