Mary McKinney (Shields)

Mary Shields McKinney, of Wrightstown, PA, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Doylestown Hospital. She was 77 years old.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the only daughter of the late Francis J and Rose A McGill Shields. She is the sister of the late Ed Shields.

Mary grew up in Mayfair and attended St Matthew's Grade school, St Hubert's High School for Girls and then graduated from Gwynedd Mercy College in 1967. She graduated with a B.S. in Medical Technology. Mary then had a long career with Merck. She began as a Biologist in the Research Laboratories and climbed her way to her final position before retiring as Executive Director of Marketing and Communications.

Mary had many fond memories of time spent at the shore. She spent summers growing up in Ocean City, NJ with her mother and aunts, she spent time in Wildwood with friends and then spent over 30 years enjoying her home in Avalon, NJ. Most of all, Mary loved spending time with her grandsons both at the shore and her home in Wrightstown,Pa.  

Mary will be missed by her daughter Jennifer Shields Kallatch and her husband Philip; her beloved grandsons, Dylan and Brayden Kallatch; and her brother Jack Shields and his wife Denise. Mary was lucky enough to have many close friends, many from grade school and high school. They will remember Mary with fond memories and fun stories.

Relatives and friends may greet Mary’s family on Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 11:00am until the start of her Tribute at 12:30pm, at the Joseph A Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East Butler Avenue in New Britain, PA 18954. Her interment will take place privately, at a later date.

While flowers are welcome, contributions in her memory may be made to an organization close to one’s heart.
