Joseph Michael Mullen Service Information

Joseph Michael Mullen (October 2, 1938 – May 3, 2023) of Philadelphia died peacefully in Naples, FL after a short illness, surrounded by family.  Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 17 years Linda Mullen (Flanagan), his sons Thomas Joseph Mullen (Wendy) of New York City and Sean Joseph Mullen (Geneifer) of Newtown, PA, and his four Grandsons Lukas, Owen, Duncan, and Joseph. Joe was born and raised in the Grays Ferry section of Philadelphia and is survived by two brothers Francis and James and their families. He was predeceased by his siblings John, Theresa, William, and George, and his parents John and Alice Mullen (McDermott). Joe lovingly cared for his first wife Mary Ann Mullen (Casey), daughter of Thomas and Agnes, during a long illness. Mary Ann died in October 2003.

Joe served honorably in the U.S. Army.   He had a long career in the newspaper industry, starting at the Philadelphia Inquirer.  He spent 20 years at The New York Times including as Vice President of Production where he was listed on the Masthead. He retired from The Times in 1995.   

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Newtown, PA.  The viewing is at 10am with Mass at 11am. In lieu of any flowers, please make donations in memory of Joseph Mullen to the Naples Alzheimer’s Support Network or to St. Vincent de Paul charity.
