Joseph Fletcher Walls III

Joseph Fletcher Walls III, of Doylestown, PA, died peacefully on Friday, May 26, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband to Helene I. Sowa Walls for 53 years. Fletcher was born on July 9, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Joseph F., Jr. and Elmira Jermyn Walls.

After graduating from Juniata College in 1957 with a degree in biology, Fletcher served in the Navy as a 3rd class Petty officer for 2 years at Johnsville and also served as a Navy Corpsman in the 512th Marine Fighter Sq. at Willow Grove for 4 years. Following the Navy, Fletcher went on to a career at Merck and Co., Inc. for 47 years. After his career at Merck, he was appointed administrator and curator at the Doylestown Historical Society in February 2006. He was also the president of the Bucks County Genealogical Society and served on the Doylestown Borough Historic Review Board from 1982 to 1990.

Along with his beloved wife Helene, Fletcher is survived by his children, Jennifer Hawley and her husband Keith of Perkasie, Joseph F. Walls IV of Doylestown; and 2 grandsons, Matthew Hawley and Jack Hawley.

Interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life in honor of Fletcher will take place on Sunday, June 11th, 2023, 2-4 pm at the Doylestown Historical Society, 56 S. Main St, Doylestown, PA 18901.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fletcher’s memory can be made to the Doylestown Historical Society, 56 S Main St, Doylestown, PA 18901.
