Joyce Faye Krauter
Joyce Faye Howard Krauter died peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2024 at her home in Penns Park, PA. She was 89 years old.
Joyce was the beloved wife of George Edward Krauter with whom she shared nearly 7 decades of love, laughter, travel, shows, and trips to the ER. Together, they built a village of friends and family that deeply enriched their lives.
Born in Salisbury, Maryland, Joyce was the daughter of the late John Howard and Mildred Taylor. She spent much of her early life in Snow Hill Maryland with her maternal grandparents and aunts. Her stories from “down home” were wholesome and warm.
Later, Joyce and her mother relocated to Philadelphia marking the start of a lifelong love of her adopted city and its history. Mildred married Charles Leonard and when Joyce was 10, her brother Bruce was born. A bond like no other was created that day. Her devotion to Bruce, and ultimately his family, was limitless.
Joyce was fun, funny, and fierce. She was a staunch proponent of gender and racial equality before those movements took shape and actively supported organizations dedicated to matching people with opportunity. She believed that “going to work” in whatever form that took, was important. She worked in banking, industrial distribution, and furniture retail over the course of 50-plus years. She was curious and could engage a stranger at the grocery store, a new friend, or an old friend with ease. She had a way of getting right to the point and giving her opinion, solicited or otherwise! Joyce was a great friend to many people, across generations, with a strong bias for action to help anyone in need. Joyce loved the theater, going out to dinner, chatting with friends and family, and any type of social gathering. She lived a very full life.
In addition to her husband George, Joyce will be dearly missed by her son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Kimberly Krauter and daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Joe Hogan. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Shawn Hogan and partner Zack Landau, Jack Hogan and partner Allie Grant, Jesse Krauter and Ethan Krauter; her brother Bruce and his wife Marie Leonard, their son Philip, his wife Melissa Leonard and their daughters Erin and Anna Leonard, daughter Eve and husband Dave Morasco, and son Peter and partner Maria Pinheiro; and her dear Aunt Elaine Laws and family.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet Joyce’s family on Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 10:00 am, until the start of her Tribute at 12:00 pm, at the Joseph A Fluehr III Funeral Home at 800 Newtown Richboro Road in Richboro, PA 18954.
