William "Bill" E Smith

William “Bill” E Smith died peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Pickering Manor in Newtown. He was 87 years old.

Bill was the beloved husband of Marcia A Gleason Smith. The couple was married for more than 66 years full of love, family and fond memories.

Born in Cohoes, NY, Bill was the son of the late Edward and Florence Carey Smith and brother to Elizabeth Joy Ivanov.

A chemical engineer by training, Bill had many passions outside of his work. He was intensely curious about science.  Bill loved the Adirondack Mountains and spent decades of summers at a camp between Middle Saranac and Upper Saranac Lakes.  He was an avid runner (the family has lost count of the number of marathons he completed) and played bagpipes with the Macgregor Pipe Band of Newtown PA.

In addition to his wife Marcia, Bill will be missed by his children and their spouses, Michelle Smith and her husband Mark Chapman, Maryrose Weir and her husband Chris, and Sean Smith and his wife Gretchen Stokes. He will be remembered as the best Poppy to his 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet Bill’s family on Monday September 9th from 10am until the start of his Funeral Mass at 11am at St. Bede the Venerable Church at 1071 Holland Road in Holland, PA 18966. His interment will take place privately on a different date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to https://regionalfoodbank.net/
