One the best teachers I’ve ever experienced. Haven’t seen Mr.McHugh in 20 years, yet I remember him vividly. Sending my condolences to his love ones.
Condolences for Edward James McHugh Jr.
I have never seen a teacher that can make a whole school of kids and adults smile and laugh at the same time, ever. But even more than that, he cared so much! His music room was in the auditorium for a long time so it was him and me. To hear the piano and the kids laughing was a joy, everyday. They say that everyone is replaceable, not a chance. No one has been able to fill his shoes at Kearny! And in our hearts there will always be a hole. Luckily, I have all his videos, art, memories, and pictures to hold on to. I am so very sorry for your loss! Ed was so loved and I hope all the memories provide some comfort during this time and always. May his memory be a blessing.
Thank you for creating so many great childhood memories for me in elementary school and for my own children as well. You will be greatly missed. Rest well.
Mr. Ed Mchugh was one of the best teachers and man I knew. He was beyond funny, an amazing musician, and a huge huge huge eagles fan. He will be beyond missed. Music will never be the same for me. He not only lit my love for music and multiple instruments but he is the reason Halloween is my favorite holiday. You will never be forgotten. We love and will miss you. Please rest easy.
Mr. McHugh was one of my daughter's favorite teachers when she was little and his presence at Kearny has been sorely missed. She and my son would sing Mr. McHugh's songs in the backseat on long car trips. He made a real difference in kids' lives. May his memory be a blessing.
Mr. Mchugh was the greatest music teacher. From the Kearny choir to the bells and even regular ole music class Mr. Mchugh was was a musical Genius and the students at Kearny Elementary loved him. We would love his fun attitude and unique voice. He had the best snacks ever. It was always a fun day with Mr. Mchugh Kearny will never forget him. He's the writer of our Kearny school song which is sang at every graduation. He would make up all kinds of songs and we would sing and love them all. Even Played Michael Jackson's "BAD" on the bells! Mr. Mchugh was a "BAD" Music Teacher and he will never be forgotten. My Prayers are with his family May He rest in peace
He was my elementary school music teacher, he was a pretty cool dude, I'm a junior in highschool now, I remember that class fondly although he always gave me a poor grade and I got a concussion and a sprained ankle in his class. He was always trying to make us laugh may he rest in peace
To the family of Ed McHugh…Thank you so much for sharing that precious video of the memories of wonderful times you’ve had together. Edward James McHugh Sr. was my mom’s brother (Katherine McHugh.) And as children we would play at the McHugh reunions (especially in the 1960s.) I offer my deepest condolences. Cousin Eddie certainly lived and served a wonderful life and obviously will be missed. It was wonderful to see you all and him in such joyous times. May he Rest In Peace.
Marylou,

I’m so sorry for your loss. Ed was a wonderful, caring, and dedicated Music teacher for the students at Kearny School. He was one of my favorite teachers. He was always so positive, reliable, happy, with a wonderful sense of humor. He had a positive impact on soooo many students. Everyone will miss him and his memory will remain in their hearts forever.
God bless you and your kind heart Ed. You will be missed but not forgotten.
