It is not in my character to reach out in this way to a family I don’t know, but I want you to know how much I loved this girl. We were classmates in the journalism school at UCONN. I followed Mary’s epic adventures, her travels, her adventures… Every now and then I would send her a message. She truly lived. I was always inspired by her autonomy. She let herself be free and in my opinion experienced more than most ever will. I loved when she began running and it was just an honor to see her grow in this way. My heart breaks at this loss. It has devastated me and I know you; her family and close friends. I loved her heart. I’m so incredibly sorry for this tragedy… she was a very bright light and her spirit I know will continue on. May you rest in peace, sweet Mary.

My deepest condolences to Mary’s parents and sister. I was a friend/coworker of Mary at Nall Daniels and she is truly the most incredible person I’ve ever known. Her loss is devastating. She loved her family so much and talked about them regularly. She was close to her sister, and when we were closest she was excited to spend as much time as she could with her new (first) nephew. I was glad to have met Mr and Mrs Cannon when they visited her. I am glad to have known Mary, and it’s difficult to express the depth of my sorrow for her sweet family. Her Alabama people will never forget her ❤️
