Donald J. Dunning

Donald Joseph Dunning, age 66, of Chalfont, passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2021, in Chester County.

Born May 21, 1954, in Philadelphia, he was the son of Marie N. Gauthier Dunning and the late Donald A. Dunning, and the husband of Dorothy Roeder Dunning, to whom he was married over 40 years.

For 42 years, Donald owned and ran Don’s Service Center, keeping Philadelphia on the road. Outside of serving the public at his shop, Don was a member of Chalfont United Methodist Church, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and shooting as a member of the Holmesburg Fish & Game Club, and the N.R.A. He was also an avid woodworker and photographer, loved classic cars, and piloting his drones. When he wasn’t working, he spent a lot of time up the mountains at his second home.  He loved being there and being part of that small town feel.  Most importantly, he loved his family, especially his grandkids. He had a special place in his heart for each one of them.

In addition to his mother and wife, Donald is survived by: son Tom Coakley, and wife Helene, of North Wales, son Brian Coakley, and wife Leigh Anne, of Philadelphia, daughter Kelly Rosen, husband Matt, of Williamstown, sister Susan Schacht, and husband Ken, of Turnersville, NJ, and grandchildren Dana Coakley, A.J. Wylesol, Samantha Wylesol, Parker Coakley, Mason Coakley, Sarah Rosen, and Ben Rosen.

Family and friends are invited to join Donald’s family for a public visitation from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Monday, April 12, 2021, at Joseph A. Fluehr, III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Avenue, New Britain, PA 18901. The wearing of masks is required, and all current health guidelines will be observed. Services and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Donald’s honor to the South Gibson United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 60, South Gibson, PA 18842.
