Helen Pepper (Stewart)

Helen Stewart Pepper of Doylestown, PA and formerly of Scotia, NY died peacefully on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at Doylestown Hospital.  She was ninety-two years of age.

Helen was the cherished wife of Frederick J. Pepper for sixty-three years.

Born in Johnsburg, NY she was the second child of the late Mark and Veronica Stewart. She spent her childhood in the Adirondack Mountains where her father, a game warden, taught her an appreciation of nature and a love of skiing. Her mother, a teacher, passed on to her a love of literature and reading. She was close to both her brothers, Edward Stewart (deceased) and Robert Stewart (deceased) both of whom practiced law in the area.

Helen spoke fondly of the time she spent studying at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. She served as an active member of the alumni for decades and helped to raise funds so that other young women could have the opportunity of higher education.

After graduation, Helen worked as a librarian for nearly thirty years, passing onto the children her love of reading and great books. She worked alongside raising her family.

After retirement, she volunteered in the Schenectady Inner City Ministry food pantry for twenty-five years, her church, St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Scotia, New York and the Rotterdam Elks.

In addition to her beloved husband Fred, Helen is survived by her loving and devoted daughters; Sheila Kyle and her husband Kevin of Doylestown, PA, Maureen Pepper and her partner Rob Cope of London, England, and Regina Kernin and her husband Kevin of Grand Island, NY.  She is also survived by her four dear grandchildren Laura, Dan, Jack and Aidan.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 11:30am until her funeral service 12:30PM in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Rd.) Richboro, PA 18954.  Her interment will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 5194 Cold Spring Creamery Road Doylestown, PA 18902.
