Catherine Curran Murray

Catherine Curran Murray, of Philadelphia, PA died on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Abington Hospital. She was 83.

She was predeceased by two husbands; her first, John Murray who passed away in 1991 and her second, Charles Geisler who passed away in 2010.

Catherine was born on May 14, 1939 in Philadelphia. She was the daughter of the late James J. and Elizabeth Hellowell Curran and sister of the late Elizabeth Regan.

After graduating from St. Anne’s Business School, she established her career in a number of fields, including earning her real estate license and a 25-year tenure at Anchor Dyeing and Finishing Company as a Production Coordinator, where she spent a number of years working alongside her mother Elizabeth.

The most important thing in Catherine’s life was her family. She was a devoted and dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter. She cared so deeply for her family, and she always checked in to make sure everyone was alright and had everything they needed. She loved her family more than anything in the world.

She had a deep compassion for all animals and was a volunteer and philanthropist for a number of organizations throughout her life. She spent time volunteering as a teacher’s aide at St. Bartholomew’s School, where her three daughters attended, and also volunteered at Frankford Torresdale Hospital. She regularly donated to a number of organizations supporting animals, veterans, and many children’s organizations.

Catherine was the leader of her local Red Hat Society chapter, known as the “Queen” of the chapter. She was passionate about her Irish heritage and loved listening to Irish music and reflecting on the trips to Ireland she was able to take throughout her life. She had a deep love of Christmas, which she passed on to her family. She listened to Christmas music and watched Christmas movies year round. She spent many hours singing along to Frank Sinatra, reading mystery novels, and watching her favorite Netflix show Lucifer.

She is survived by her three children; Cathleen Malerman (Robert) of Meadowbrook, PA, Marie Marcelis (Mark) of North Wales, PA, Kelly Smith (Kevin) of Folsom, PA, her brother James Curran (June) of Summerfield, FL, her sister, Sr. Lisa Curran, OSF and her brother Edward Curran (Laurie).
