

Anthony "Tony" S. Puglisi MD
Anthony “Tony” Stephen Puglisi, MD, 82, of Huntingdon Valley, PA on Sat. Sept. 3, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer.
Beloved husband of 56 years to Barbara Lee Carter Puglisi, devoted father of Robert (Gwen), Joanna Puglisi-Barley (Michael) and Stephen (Nicole); adoring grandfather to Carter, Christian, Morgan, Antonia, Jude, Brooke and Angelo. He is survived by his sister, Rita Markiewicz, sister-in-law Maria Ranieri and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Stephen and Josephine Straguzzi Puglisi; sisters, Jenny Pisano and Lee Musemeci and brother Anthony Puglisi.
Dr. Puglisi was born in Philadelphia on Jan. 26, 1940. He was the youngest of five children. Dr. Puglisi graduated from South Philadelphia High School and Temple University. He then went on to attend Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital where he earned his medical degree and did his internship. Dr. Puglisi interrupted his studies to serve in the United States Air Force. He attended the Brooke School of Aviation Medicine in San Antonio, Texas where he earned the rank of captain and flight surgeon. He was stationed at Davis Monthan AFB, Tucson, Arizona, with the 4453rd Combat Crew Training Wing under the command of Colonel Chappy James. Dr. Puglisi did his orthopedic surgical residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He was board certified with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
He was on staff at many hospitals over his career, including Albert Einstein Medical Center where he served as director of the Joint Replacement Program and a member of the Maimonides Society; District Council 33 and John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, where he served as president, vice president and treasurer of the medical staff, as well as director of orthopedics and served the Police and Fire Medical Association. He served as vice president and secretary of the medical staff at Episcopal Hospital; and was attending physician at MossRehab Hospital and the Medical College Hospital-Elkins Park Campus. Dr. Puglisi was a Fellow with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and American College of Surgeons.
During his lifetime, Dr. Puglisi attended church regularly and had great devotion to the Blessed Mother and Saint Gianna. He found great comfort in his faith. Dr. Puglisi was an avid woodworker, crafting many pieces of beautiful furniture, for himself, children and grandchildren; enjoyed going to auctions with his wife; and spending time with his family and friends, especially at the holidays. He also loved his cats, and is now reunited with the one he missed most, Caesar. He was a wonderful husband, fantastic father, extraordinary Poppy and compassionate physician. He had immeasurable generosity. He was a real Renaissance Man. We will miss him until we are reunited again.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet his family on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 10:00am, until the start of his Funeral Mass at 11:00am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 611 Knowles Avenue in Southampton, PA 18966. His interment will follow at St. John Neumann Cemetery in Chalfont, PA.
