Prabhakar Paul Thatte

Prabhakar Paul Thatte, of Newtown, PA, died on Sunday, September 4, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was 86 years old.

Known by all as “Paul” or “Thatte Sahib”, Paul was the beloved husband of over 51 years to the late Asha Tambat Thatte.

Born in India, he was the son of the late Moreshwar Thatte and Sharda Cholkar Thatte. He was also predeceased by three older sisters, who lived their lives in India.

Paul came to the United States in September 1969 and resided most of his life in Bucks County, PA, residing in Newtown for 30 years.

Paul had many accomplishments and accolades in his life, which included but not limited to the following:

  • Being the only child in his family having finished his undergraduate and master degrees in Civil engineering at Jabalpur University [India] and Indian Institute of Technology – Roorkee [India], respectively, and later receiving his M.S. in Civil Engineering from Drexel University.
  • Being a brave solder during the Sino India War of 1962
  • Being the first member of the Thatte family to immigrate to the United States and to become a U.S. Citizen, and building a prosperous and happy for his wife and daughters
  • Owning an engineering firm and custom home construction business and later leaving the private sector to pursue a career with the U.S. federal government to show his patriotism [working for the Department of Navy, FEMA, and ending with an over 15 year career with the Internal Revenue Service as a Special Revenue Agent for the then Large, Mid-Size Business Division before retiring]
  • Being passionate about education, including tutoring students of all ages in math and sciences, substitute teaching math and sciences classes at the Council Rock and Bristol Township School Districts, and tutoring potential U.S. Citizens on their Citizenship Test
  • Creating a college fund for engineering students back in his hometown of Jansi, India to honor his late father who was an engineering professor
  • Being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend

Paul will be missed by his oldest brother and younger sister, who reside in India, his daughters and son-in-law, Sangita Thatte and Anita and Munish Sood and his grandchildren, Sanjna, Sonali and Jay. He will also be missed by all of his other family and friends living worldwide.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to Paul’s Funeral and Prayer Service on Friday, September 9, 2022 beginning at 1:30pm. A private cremation service will follow.
