Joan M. Chivetta (Ferreri)

Joan "Joanie" Marie Chivetta of Sellersville passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022. She was 80 years old.

Daughter of the late Salvatore and Lillian (Gilberti) Ferreri, Joan was born and raised in the Overbrook neighborhood of West Philadelphia. She attended West Philadelphia Catholic Girls' High School and developed a deep appreciation for opera and classical music as a young adult.

After marriage, Joan lived in several regions in the country before settling in St. Louis, MO to raise her family. This experience broadened her horizons, giving her an appreciation for diverse local cultures. Having become a midwestern transplant Joan adopted the colloquial term of sauce for gravy. Joan's infectious enthusiasm for learning added a uniquely positive joyfulness to the world.

As a single mother, Joan worked her way through college. She earned her Associates in Applied Science, Nursing from St. Louis Community College at Meramec in 1988. Psychiatric nursing quickly became Joan's chosen field after she obtained her license as a Registered Nurse. She continued her career after relocating back to the east coast. She worked hard caring for her patients for 25 years until her retirement but never lost her compassion. Sadly, Joan's career ended prematurely due to a pulmonary illness.

Joan loved listening to classical music and attending operas. She also enjoyed watching Brit-coms and nature programming on PBS.  She was a great cook and always loved feeding people and sending them home with plenty of left-overs. She enthusiastically respected other cultures while remaining proud of her Italian-American heritage. We will miss her meatballs and sauce, lasagna, scampi, pizzelles, braciole and all of the other wonderful dishes she loved to share.

She will be truly missed by all her friends and family.

Joan is survived by her sons, Jon M. Chivetta and his fiancee Michelle Parlett of Florida, Jeffrey M. Chivetta and his wife Megan of Fountainville, PA, and her sister Rosemarie B. (Lawrence) Rinaldi of New Jersey. Joan was predeceased in death by her brother Lawrence L. (Minerva) Ferreri.

Joan’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, September 16, 2022 from 9:30 AM until her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 235 East State Street, Doylestown, PA 18901. Her interment will follow in Doylestown Cemetery.
