Edward James McHugh Jr.

Edward James McHugh Jr. died Saturday, September 10, 2022 in Abington, PA. He was 63 years old.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Edward was the son of the late Edward J McHugh Sr. and Marylou Kahn McHugh.

As a loving father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, teacher and friend, Eddie’s passion for family, animals, concerts, art and music was contagious. Whether it be a family dinner, road trip, shore vacations, exploring restaurants, a trip to the racetrack, a 5K or half marathon, an adventure was never the same without his kindhearted, unique and funny perspective. His support for Philadelphia sports never wavered, especially for the Eagles and Phillies, and as a season ticket holder for many years could often be found tailgating and in the 700 Level. A graduate of Duquesne and Temple Universities, he was a talented musician who composed his own music and mastered Gershwin. As a dedicated music teacher, he served the School District of Philadelphia his entire career at Kearny Elementary School in Northern Liberties. He was also the best dog dad to Daisy and Lily. We are so grateful to have been able to share in Eddie’s life - his goofy and kind spirit will continue to inspire all those who knew and loved him. As he would often say... “Rock and roll!”

In addition to his mother Marylou K McHugh, Edward will be missed and remembered by his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Kahn; his siblings, David McHugh and his wife Leslie, Kara and her husband Carey Kalupson, Scott McHugh and his wife Mary, Stephen McHugh and his wife Meg, and Meredith McHugh Karow; his nieces and nephews, James Kalupson, Andrew McHugh and his wife Claire, Sarah McHugh, Katherine Kalupson, Ryan McHugh, Beckett Karow, Isabella Karow and Patrick McHugh.

Relatives and friends may greet Edward’s family on Monday, September 19, 2022 from 11:00am, until the start of his Tribute Service at 12:30pm at the Joseph A Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown Richboro Road in Richboro, PA 18954. All are invited to attend a luncheon immediately following the Tribute Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Welfare Association at 509 Centennial Blvd. in Voorhees, NJ 08043 (awanj.org) or to Rock to the Future (rocktothefuture.org).
