William "Bill" J. Mattern

William James Mattern of Doylestown, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 27, 2022.

He was 64. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Gulbinski) Mattern for 39 years and proud father of three children.

Bill was born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and was the son of Jacqueline (Firment) Pinkerton of Naples, Florida and the late William Marsh.

He is an alumnus of LaSalle College High School and graduated from Washington & Jefferson College with a degree in microbiology. Bill worked for Proctor & Gamble and Johnson & Johnson as a project manager alongside many friends before retiring in 2016.  He spent his retirement fishing, golfing, and traveling. Some of his favorite pastimes were sitting by the campfire while listening to country music and hiking at Peace Valley Park to spot wildlife.  His good humor, quick wit and knack for planning will be missed by all who knew him.

Bill met the love of his life, Sue, in 1982 and they celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary on October 22, surrounded by family. They spent their lives together raising a family and traveling the world.

Bill is survived by his children: Sara Mattern of Washington DC, William Mattern and his wife Erin (Quirk) Mattern, and their son Troy of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, and Amanda Mattern of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Bill is also survived by his beloved Aunt Mary Helen and Uncle Joseph “Skip” Kulha, his half-brother, Joseph Mattern, and many aunts, uncles and other extended family.
