Debra A. Smith (Stewart)

Debra A. (Stewart) Smith, 59, of Chalfont, passed away Friday, January 6, 2023. She was the beloved wife of Frank H. Smith.

Born March 14, 1963 in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Catherine (Scott) Stewart.

Her primary schooling was completed at St. Catherine of Sienna School.  She attended and graduated from Springfield Gardens High School in Queens, New York. This was followed by University studies at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York, and graduation from Herbert Lehman College of the City University of New York in the Bronx, New York with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

During her first year of college, she had a part time job working at the Queensborough Public Library.  It was there that she met her future husband, Frank.

The couple decided to marry shortly after graduation, although a transfer to Chicago by Frank’s employer caused a change in plans to an immediate wedding, and an immediate move to Chicago. In subsequent years on being asked why move with no relatives or friends and very little money, her answer was always the same. “I believe in you, our future, and our love”.  That sentiment was repeated several times through numerous moves for career advancement for Frank.

Her enduring legacy will be her smile. Whether family or friends or strangers, she greeted all with a beautiful, radiant smile.

“I still see her face, beautiful as day. It’s easy to remember, remember our love that way”.

Along with her husband, Frank, Debra is survived by a son, Alexander Christopher Smith of Chalfont.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 10:00 am until the prayer service at 11:00 am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.), New Britain. Interment will follow at Beulah Cemetery, New Britain.

Contributions in Debra’s name can be made to the National Kidney Foundation, https://www.kidney.org/, or A Woman’s Place, https://awomansplace.org/supportus/online-donation.html .
